While cashews do remain a staple within snacking, there is growing competition across this whole sector, and for cashew volumes to increase into and across manufacturing, stable and competitive pricing is key. 2020 needs to see cashews offering a more stable pricing and cleaner quality to drive growth.
The year ahead looks problematic. Clearly exponential price increase will hit demand and arguably, any new product development projects should now reconsider the inclusion of cranberries ahead of likely supply issues as the year goes on.
Prices look set to rise with news that one of the top Indonesian coconut mills (PT Harvard) has closed. This will mean that there will be defaulted shipments and a squeeze on supply as buyers look to cover their needs from alternative sources or from spot stocks.
